FreeLizer is a platform that connects event producers, project managers, and audio visual firms with freelancing professionals in the industry. With a proven business model, the demand for FreeLizer’s services has been high, and the previous platform they used to operate on, was essentially at capacity ( They had only a wordpress website with a very few number of operational engagements,and many business operations were performed manually ). Recognizing this growth barrier, they decided to go for a fully automated web based solution to manage the operations of their organization. This is where Fidenz came into the picture, and assisted the FreeLizer organization by engineering a fully customized web solution using a robust framework, allowing for more integration, automation and scalability.

Client Requirement

FreeLizer organization has been managing their service’s operations via manual approaches and the requirement was to develop a more efficient, scalable web application using the most appropriate technologies so that they can bring their service to the next level, standing out their platform among other competitors in their domain, connecting event producers/managers with the best audio/visual freelance contractors available in the industry, using a “gig” based engagement model.

Simplifying the registration process, automating the documentation works, creating a digital call sheet and a calendar integration, providing a user dashboards to manage the profiles, freelance gigs, event calendars and call sheets and creating a custom CMS/portal were among the main requirements of this system, which eventually summed up to a good amount of work.

Challenges in the Business model

The business domain that FreeLizers are engaged in, is a quite competitive and challenging one. Most competitors of this sort were already established to a considerable extent in their business, and the system that we were supposed to engineer, was meant to be competing with them. Hence perfection was a must in this project. User experience and the efficiency of the collaborative operations were expected to be top notch.

Also, the nature of their business model itself was very dynamic. Understanding their domain, finalizing and mapping all of its current and potential requirements into the platform while expecting changes and more future accommodations, was indispensable and very much challenging.

Challenges in Technology

While selecting the stack of technologies to complete the project, a serious attention was paid to both the end user experience and the smooth functioning of its internal mechanism and its well being. Rapid development, continuous integrations and continuous delivery, maintainability and the scalability of the system, and last but not least the performance, were among our major concerns while planning this project. And it was very tricky to maintain all these qualities at the same time due to the complexity of the requirements and the dynamic nature of the business model it was supposed to handle. So it was critical to make the best choices in selecting all the different tools,to finally come up with an excellent piece of software.

Adding more to this, since they already had a long established manual process,and having their members used to it, the same old journey was expected out of the new platform as well. So the core mechanism was not flexible for adaptations either. And on top of all these, it was critical for this platform to have a minimum maintenance downtime, being available to access at any given time of the day, and to be super reliable because the whole business operation of the organization was meant to be handled by it.

Not to mention, security was another crucial fact as well, since the platform itself was supposed to handle many confidential business and personal data.

However with the experience and the knowledge the Fidenz engineering team had in building systems of this scale, this challenge was overcome paving a perfect way to the project.


Despite all the aforementioned complexities, within less than (a duration) , Fidenz team came up with a robust system that consisted of all the desired features and deployed it in AWS cloud hosting by July 2019. There we created a dedicated CI/CD pipeline as well for deployments purposes, integrated automated regular backin up features improving its recoverability, and secured the platform and all its communications with SSL, delivering an excellent product that even exceeded the expectations of the client.

To achieve all this, On our recommendation our client gave us the consent to go ahead with a set of Royalty free technologies (opensource), which brought down the final cost of the project by a great portion, and most importantly enabling us to gain more flexibility, maintainability and a great customizability, resulting in an outstanding overall performance.

Final Outcome

Since the first time deployment and implementation of this system, we have been maintaining this system and are still working on change-requests from time to time.

According to our client, the new platform we delivered has helped them immensely in increasing their monthly/annual profits, cutting off many expenses and in-efficiencies the previous method they used to operate on. It also has attracted a drastic amount of new online engagements to the platform, and as a result, they are at the top of their game now, FreeLizer being the leading platform for connecting event producers/managers with freelance contractors in the industry.
