The past traditional operating systems such as Windows and iOS were not designed to comply with IoT applications due to several reasons such as higher power consumption, the need for fast processors. In certain scenarios, it lacked features such as guaranteed real-time response. They further have too large memory footprints for small devices and hence did not support the chips that are used by IoT developers. However, at present, to meet these requirements, a wide range of IoT-specific operating systems has been developed to suit the needs.
